My life changed forever.
I woke up that day with the snow not letting up. I was getting married
that night and I could not believe a Nor'easter hit the Northeast. A
record-breaking snowfall blanketed Millstone Township with one storm on
Friday followed by a second storm on Saturday. Winds of between 25 to 30
mph and gusts of up to 40 mph created blizzard like conditions. By Saturday
evening, 14.5" had fallen in Metuchen, 12.8" in Cream Ridge and 10.5" in
Manalapan. Four times that day I shoveled the driveway and it did not
matter. That night turned out to be the best night ever and one of the
greatest days of my life.
My wife gets into bed around 1:18
am in the morning when all of a sudden she gets her first contraction. Boy
was it a painful one she had me grab a piece a paper and watch the clock since
we were told we had to track the contractions for one hour and if the
contractions lasted more than a minute and came every 5 minutes to call the Dr.
and than proceed to the hospital. So I watched the clock and tried to help
my wife with rubbing her back. After about 20 minutes she was ready to
bite my head off and at the same time die from the pain that was hitting her.
We called the Dr. and proceeded to lie to her and tell her that the hour had
passed and we were going to the hospital. So an hour and half later we
left for the hospital. Reason being was my wife could not get up to walk
down the stairs and get into the car. We rushed to the hospital and
arrived around 3 am. She was admitted and put into a Delivery Room where
she got a epidural which returned my wife to a happy loving caring person.
By 1:18pm, Parker James entered the world.
My wife tells me her water broke around 5 so after our first experience of how
bad the contractions were for Parker. We called the midwife, Karen Katz, and
told her we were heading in shortly. We call Kristin's sister, Lisa to let her
know the game was on. She immediately jumped in her car with Carol and made it
to the hospital by noon. That was the fastest ever Lisa got down to New Jersey.
The labor and delivery went smooth and we had a beautiful second son arrive.
My son rolls over from his back to his stomach for the first time. What an amazing moment. Four Months and 15 days. It is exciting watching him develop. Life goes by quicker and quicker these days and once in a while you have to sit back a watch around you and love the moment that you are in. See video on
March 17, 2004 and March 17,
2007 How ironic that on the same day both my boys say Da Da for the first time.
It is definitely a moment you do not forget.
For months you say over and over again Da Da and they stare at you like you have
two heads and then that moment happens when they repeat what you said and it is
the next step in aging you are really a father because your son or daughter will
call you that forever. It will be a special day every year as people
celebrate the Irish I will celebrate being called Daddy.
So today we decided to let Parker run around in his
Birthday suit. He expressed interest in sleeping in his Big Boy
Bed and we made a promise if he went to the bathroom (#2) he would be
allowed to sleep in his big boy bed. So as he ran around the house, I
asked a lot if he had to go to the bathroom. He continued to say, "No"
and then at one point he grabbed my hand and said I have to go Pee Pee's so
we ran to the bathroom and he immediately went. So of course, he
still needed to do #2, so I again asked him over and over again until he
grabbed me again and we went running to the bathroom where he sat right down
and within seconds he completed the task at hand. Mommy, Daddy and
Parker started dancing and singing because we were so proud of him.
Monroe takes his first 3
steps. After bath time, Grandma and Mommy are getting Monroe ready for
bed and decide to sit a few feet apart and try and let Monroe walk between
them. I am in the bathroom helping Parker finish up his bath.
The women start screaming and cheering because Monroe took his first steps.
We are in trouble now.
